Sinosteel Midwest’s “Resourcing the Region” Sponsorship Programme

Sinosteel Midwest has a strong commitment to the communities in which it lives and works, supporting the social and economic fabric of those communities while providing sustainable benefits and employment opportunities where possible.

We recognise the importance of nurturing community understanding of our activities and the need to share our successes with local participants.

Sinosteel Midwest has established a structured way to invest back into the Mid West. Our Resourcing the Region community sponsorship programme brings local training and employment opportunities, and funds local initiatives involving social, cultural and educational activities.

Resourcing the Region aims to build more vital, well equipped, stronger communities, and to ensure that current and future generations benefit from our involvement in the community through an integration of environmental protection, social advancement and economic prosperity.

Through the Resourcing the Region programme, Sinosteel Midwest seeks to contribute to initiatives which:

• Strengthen the community
• Build the capacity of youth through education
• Conserve and repair the natural environment
• Contributes to indigenous interests

All the projects we support will fall into one of the focus areas mentioned above, and our support will be directed into the communities in which we operate.

Resourcing the Region funding applications are considered three times annually (at the end of February, June and October). For all the details of the programme, including how to apply, please download the “Resourcing the Region Sponsorship Programme” and “Application Form”.

Community Development Funds

Sinosteel Midwest is also involved in establishing “grass roots” funds that are managed by local communities in which we operate.

The existing Morawa Community Fund has been converted to the Morawa Future Fund, with the commitment by Sinosteel Midwest of approx. $890,000 to establish a perpetual fund for the ongoing use and benefit of the Morawa community.

This exciting development allows the people of Morawa to identify specific community organisations and projects that need attention and support. Contributions by the Morawa Future Fund may be very small, or more substantial. But the common theme is that the community is best at knowing what needs doing, and the Morawa Future Fund is there to help.

Sinosteel Midwest is also working with the Shires of Perenjori and Mingenew to establish Future Funds that work in a similar manner. These will come on line as our projects in those shires progress, and we will keep everyone informed as we go.

So Far, So Good...

At Sinosteel Midwest we estimate that we have so far invested and contributed in excess of $30 million to the Mid West region.

Our contribution to the Morawa Future Fund so far has been approx. $100,000 per year, and more recently, our general sponsorships in WA and throughout the Mid West have been in excess of $300,000.

So far, we have identified and assisted exceptional organisations and projects including local facilities, sports teams, local infrastructure, farm improvement programs, education and medical services, and indigenous organisations.

Sinosteel Midwest sponsors a number of local sporting clubs in the Mid West including:

• The Morawa Tigers
• The Geraldton Rovers
• The Meekatharra Race Club
