Sinosteel Midwest Corporation is a founding member of the Geraldton Iron Ore Alliance.
The Alliance was formed in December 2005 by a group of companies with iron ore deposits in the Geraldton/Mid West area of Western Australia. The primary role of the Alliance is to promote the development of a viable and successful iron ore industry in the region.
The Alliance is working with government and other stakeholders in the region to facilitate the development of the iron ore industry, particularly the provision of the required infrastructure.
Guiding Principles for Sustainable Mining
The member companies that make up the Geraldton Iron Ore Alliance recognise the importance of
developing and operating in a sustainable manner in their endeavour to establish a world class iron
ore industry in the Mid West/Murchison Region of Western Australia. Accordingly they undertake to
maintain the following Sustainability Principles:
- Contribute to best practice in sustainable mine management through collaboration, partnerships, and knowledge-sharing between the member companies of the Alliance and appropriate partnering organisations.
- Demonstrate industry leadership in the implementation of ethical business practices and sound systems of corporate governance.
- Integrate sustainable development considerations within the corporate decision-making process, recognising the environmental qualities of Mid West/Murchison region and seeking to provide a lasting economic and social legacy to the region.

- Seek continual improvement of our health and safety performance.
- Seek continual improvement of our environmental performance, while meeting industry best practice standards.
