Rail & Port Infrastructure

A crucial element in the development of the iron ore industry in the mid west region is the construction of a new deep water port and connecting standard gauge railway of approximately 465 kms.

In March 2009, the Western Australian Government signed a State Development Agreement with Oakajee Port and Rail (OPR) for a new deep water port at Oakajee including an integrated rail network.

OPR have commenced a bankable feasibility study for the $4 billion Oakajee Port and associated rail project. Commercial operations at the new Oakajee Port is expected in late 2013 or early 2014.

Sinosteel Midwest will be a major user of this new rail and port infrastructure and is working with the State Government and OPR on the port project to ensure it is completed as early as possible.
